Finding and Installing Apps from Android Market

Android Market™ is the place to go to find new apps for your phone. Choose from a wide variety of free and paid apps ranging from productivity apps, entertainment, to games. When you find an app you want, you can easily download and install it on your phone with just a few taps of your finger.

To access Android Market, you must first connect to the Internet using your phone's Wi-Fi or data connection and log in to your Google Account. Follow the instructions in Signing In to Your Google Account if you did not log in to your Google Account when you first set up your phone.

Accessing Android Market

  1. Press HOME, and then tap the All Programs button at the bottom-left corner of the Home screen.
  2. Tap Market.
  3. When you visit Android Market for the first time, the Terms of Service window willappear. Tap Accept to continue to the Android Market home screen.

Finding and installing an app

When you install apps from Android Market and use them on your phone, they may require access to your personal information (such as your location, contact data, and more) or access to certain functions or settings of your phone. Download and install only apps that you trust.

  1. To find an app in Android Market, you can:
    • Browse through featured apps.
      Slide your finger left or right across the featured apps shown at the top of the Android Market home screen.
    • Browse apps by categories.
      First, tap Applications or Games and then tap a category. Under a category, you can browse through apps By popularity or By date.
    • Search for an app.
      Tap Search on the Android Market home screen, enter the name or type of app you're looking for, and then tap the magnifying glass icon to the right of the search box.
  2. Tap an app to read a description about the app and user reviews.
  3. Tap Install.
    The subsequent screen notifies you whether the app will require access to your personal information or access to certain functions or settings of your phone. If you agree to the conditions, tap OK to begin downloading and installing the app.

You can check the progress of the download and installation process in the Notifications panel. To open the Notifications panel, press and hold the status bar at the top of the screen and then slide your finger downward.

After the app is downloaded and installed on your phone, a checkmark icon will be shown on the left side of the status bar.

Opening an installed app

To open and use the app you downloaded and installed on your phone, press HOME, tap the All Programs button at the bottom-left corner of the screen, and then tap the app.

Android Market's My downloads screen keeps track of the apps that you have downloaded to your phone. You can also open the app from this screen.

  1. On the Android Market home screen, tap My downloads.
  2. Tap the app you want to use.
  3. Tap Open.

Uninstalling an app

  1. On the Android Market home screen, tap My downloads.
  2. Tap the app you want to remove, and then tap Uninstall.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. Select a reason for uninstalling the app, and then tap OK.

Removed apps still appear in Android Market's My downloads screen so you can easily find and reinstall them, if needed.
