Using Your Phone as a Modem

Do you want to browse the Web or check mails on your computer when you're in a place  where wired or wireless Internet is inaccessible? Use your phone's mobile network sharing capability—also called "tethering"—to instantly connect your computer to the Internet.

Before you do this, make sure that you have installed HTC Sync on your computer, and that you have turned on your phone's data connection (such as 3G). For information on how to turn your phone's data connection on or off, see Connecting to the Internet Using 3G, GPRS, or EDGE.

Sharing your phone's Internet connection

  1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Wireless controls.
  3. Select the Mobile network sharing check box.

Mobile network sharing is enabled and the Mobile network sharing icon appears on the left side of the Notifications panel.

You can now access the Internet on your computer. While using your phone as a modem, you will not be able to access the phone's storage card or synchronize your phone.

Turning Mobile network sharing off

  1. Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Wireless controls.
  2. Clear the Mobile network sharing check box.

Tethering is not supported on TELUS Hero device.
