Using Smart Dial

When you make a phone call, you can either dial a number directly, or you can use the Smart Dial feature to search and call a stored contact or a number from Call History.

When you enter the first few letters of a name, the digits of a phone number, or the contact’s initials, Smart Dial searches for the patterns including characters that appear after a space, dash or underscore. As you enter more letters or numbers, the list shows only the corresponding matches making it easy to find the desired contact quickly.

  1. Press the CALL button or phone number to open the Phone dialer screen.
  2. Begin entering the first few letters or digits by tapping the keys on the Phone keypad. (If you entered a wrong letter or digit, tap the onscreen Back button. To erase the entire entry, press and hold the onscreen Back button.)
As you enter digits or letters, the Smart Dial panel displays matches found.

  1. Tap the button at the bottom left corner of the Phone dialer screen to temporarily hide the Phone keypad so you can see if there are more matching contacts or numbers. To scroll through the filtered list, flick through the list or slide your finger up or down the list slowly.
  2. Tap a contact name or number that you want to call.
If you want to call a contact but dial another number of this contact, tap the contact card icon at the right of the contact name and choose another number.
